plans to install new flooring.
I recently removed old living room carpet with plans to install new flooring.
Of course there was asbestos tiles underneath and in a gut reaction I decided
to remove the tiles since a bunch was loose and the carpet tack strips rendered
all the tiles near the wall to be in pieces. I sealed off the entrances to the
room with 2mm poly sheets and tape, used plenty of water/soap mixture, and a
respirator with P100 filters. Unfortunately for me most of the tiles are impossibly
hard to remove with out breaking them into pieces. 3 days and I'm only halfway through
a 320sq ft rm. Now to the question, the mastic left over is impossible to scrape off.
Can I install a floating floor over the mastic with just a 6mm vapor barrier and an
under layment? I'd like to seal it with a paint or enamel but my research hasn't found
a sealer that will work well on the mastic. By the way the sub-floor is concrete. Man,
I wish I had left well enough alone and patched the broken/missing vat and just sealed
with paint.
