Post What Is an AC Power Plug?
An AC power plug is a portable electrical connector which consists at the minimum of two metal contact prongs designed to make contact with matching points connected to a power supply, usually contained in a protected electrical outlet. Except for the actual metal contacts, an AC power plug is protected by an insulated grip that's designed for ease of insertion into, or extraction from, a power outlet. Power is transmitted from the plug to the device by means of an insulated cable.

Post Re: What Is an AC Power Plug?
AC power plugs and sockets are devices that connect appliances, portable light fixtures, and other electrically-operated devices to the commercial power supply so that electric power can flow to them.

Power plugs are male electrical connectors that fit into female electrical sockets. They have contacts that are pins or blades that connect mechanically and electrically to holes or slots in the socket. Plugs usually have a "live" or "hot" contact, a "neutral" contact, and an optional "earth" or "Ground" contact. Many plugs make no distinction between the live and neutral contacts, and in some cases they have two live contacts. The contacts may be steel or brass, and may be zinc, tin or nickel plated.

Power sockets, "power receptacles", or "power outlets" are female electrical connectors that have slots or holes which accept the pins or blades of power plugs inserted into them and deliver electricity to the plugs. Sockets are usually designed to reject any plug which is not built to the same electrical standard. Some sockets have a pin that connects to a hole on the plug, for a ground contact.__TOC__

The three contacts

In most countries, household power is single-phase electric power, with two or three wired contacts at each outlet:

* The live wire (also known as phase, hot or active contact), carries the source Voltage phase alternating current from the power grid via the electrical service panel to the household loads.
* The neutral wire or "return" returns current to the source.
* The earth wire (known as ground in American English) is only intended to carry electric current when the connected equipment develops an insulation (safety) fault, and should otherwise never carry a current. It is generally connected to metal cases and other parts of the equipment which may come into contact with humans. Electromagnetic interference filters and surge protectors dispose of unwanted electric charges via the earth wire.

Hello

Power cables may be either fixed or detachable from the appliance. In the case of detachable leads, the appliance end of the power cord has a socket (female connector) rather than a plug (male connector) to link it to the appliance, to avoid the dangers from having a live protruding pin. Cords may also have twist-locking features, or other attachments to prevent accidental disconnection at one or both ends. A cord set may include accessories such as fuses for overcurrent protection, a pilot lamp to indicate voltage is present, or a leakage current detector. Power cords for sensitive instruments, or audio/video equipment may also include a shield over the power conductors to minimize electromagnetic interference. The terms are generally used for cables using a power plug to connect to a single-phase alternating current power source at the local line voltage. An AC power plug is a portable electrical connector which consists at the minimum of two metal contact prongs designed to make contact with matching points connected to a power supply, usually contained in a protected electrical outlet. Hey friends

Design your own power cords, power cords, IEC power cords, UL power cords, International power cords, Hospital Grade power cords, electrical cord or AC power cords, and extension cords. Simply identify your power cord plug, receptacle and cord (wire) using the options to the left and let us know what you need. Power cords can be fully customized with a switch, standard or custom strain relief, terminal, labels and any special preparation. An AC power plug is a portable electrical connector which consists at the minimum of two metal contact prongs designed to make contact with matching points connected to a power supply, usually contained in a protected electrical outlet. The “standard” AC power plug in the United States is designed for household current, which is up to 15 amps at 125 volts. It consists of two parallel metal blades.

Have a nice day !
