Hello

Shopping represents a cash outflow, but you can mitigate this buy having a disciplined budget and by using these thoughtful insights on how to save cash.

* Use Discounts and Coupons
Look out for good buys through discounts and coupons of the things that you do need. You may want to consider buying in bulk if prices are low. This will save you money in the future.

* Buy in Bulk
Buying in bulk can reduce price per unit, especially when there are offers. More importantly, it would save you time and petrol which is expensive. Stock up your kitchen to minimise shopping lists in the future.

* Shop After a Meal
Shop after you have eated. This way tidbits and other packed lunches would seen less enticing. This is better for your budget and for your health.

Shopping is inevitable for everyone of us and can be a burden when overspending habits - consciously or not - happen. There are several ways of cutting down on additional costs when shopping. Here are a few tips to help you save money and relieve you from financial stress.
Plan Your Trips and Stick to a Budget

Know how many times you hit the shops within a month and set a routine as to what you purchase with each trip. You should also know how much you spend on these goods. So the next time you are at the shops, jot down prices to use to prepare your next prudent budget.

You may want to shop for non-perishable (eg, household cleaning agents, toiletries, stationery) items once a month and perishable (vegetables, meats, cold beverages) items once a week. With your established routine, set a budget with the cash you already have (for the month) and separate them into envelopes. Label your envelopes and use them as you go for your trips. This will help you stick to your budget.
Shop with a Shopping List

Take a quick inventory check around the house and list down your shopping list before you leave the house. Stick to the list and cross off the items that are in your trolley as you go along. This will curb you from wandering around aimlessly and picking up goods that you do not need.
Use Discounts and Coupons

# Make a list before going shopping: They call it impulse buying for a reason. Humans simply have a very tough time resisting the temptation to purchase extras while shopping. Without a list you will buy items that you simply do not need. Even worse is when your forget to purchase the actual item you came to the store for in the first place. If you plan on cooking at home, pre-plan a rough menu and make a list before you go grocery shopping. Getting all that you need in one trip can help avoid another unnecessary trip and temptation.

# Go grocery shopping while you are in a hurry: Maybe you need to go out in a couple of hours. Or your favorite show is going to be on TV after a couple of hours. Try to squeeze in the grocery trip in that intermediate time. Armed with your grocery list, you should be in-and-out very quickly with little time for meandering and getting tempted to buy things you don’t need.

# Watch out for expiration dates on perishable goods: This one seems intuitive when you read it, but I am surprised at how many people do not pay attention to expiry dates. No point getting a gallon of milk if it is going to turn sour with a couple of days. Same goes for meat, eggs, yogurt, spreads, frozen items, deli/bakery items etc. Some people say you can use a few items a few days after expiry – but I personally value my health more than money and would rather avoid buying such items in the first place.

# Buy in bulk whenever possible: When it comes to non-perishable items, buy in bulk whenever you find something on sale. The items I usually stock up on are, cereals, tinned goods, rice, beans, pasta, coke, toothpaste, body wash, shampoo, toilet paper etc. For such items, shopping at warehouse stores like Costco, Sam’s Club etc can save you quite a bit of money, provided you stick strictly to your shopping list when you shop at these place.
# Price check before buying anything expensive: For other items that are expensive, do a price check before buying the item. If you can wait for a while you can track the prices and grab a great deal when it comes along. Frequently available online coupons make it even more easy to save some money. This is especially true while purchasing any electronics.

# Avoid impulse buying: Make it a habit to avoid impulse buying. Many of the things you want to buy do not seem all that necessary, if you only you wait for a day or two. Also, waiting means you will be able to check prices and make an informed decision to buy it at the best possible price.

A great price may not be so great after you add in shipping charges. Fortunately many sites offer free or reduced shipping. Some sites will give shipping discounts when you enter a coupon code, others give free or reduced shipping after you buy a certain dollar amount of merchandise. An example of this would be Amazon.com. They offer free shipping on many products if the total is over $25. Many other sites have similar offers if you search for them.

One last way to save money is with rebates. Stores that sell computers or computer parts do this the most. You have to fill out forms, clip bar codes, and send in receipts but it can be worth the trouble to save money. You do have to wait to receive your rebate in the mail though.

Follow these tips and you can save money when shopping online. It takes time to research the best deals and prices but it will be worth it.

Despite the squeeze on finances, shopping remains the nation's favourite pastime. But before hitting the high street it's worth taking time to think about how you can make the most of your hard earned cash. Shopping online can save you money on everyday and big value purchases. However, for good old high street therapy, there are a number of ways you can cut your costs, leaving you with more money to spend on your favourite items!

* Use cash not cards: Pay for every single item in cash for seven days and work out how much you really spend. Most of us don't register purchases we make with debit or credit cards. In comparison if you suddenly have to hand over £140 for a pair of shoes, counting out the tenners at the cash desk can really hit home. Learning how your "small but often" purchases add up, can also highlight how much you spend without realizing and make it easier for you to see where savings can be made.

* Spot where you are wasting money: Be aware of how you overspend on "security blanket" items. Everyone has something they repeatedly waste money on to get a shopping hit. Look in your wardrobe and work out what your 'fashion security blanket' is. Do you have 23 pairs of black flat shoes; 14 white shirts and 17 scented candles still in boxes?

* Bargains galore: Make sure you know when mid-season or sample sales are happening by signing up to sites. You can also log on to shop like the celebs on high end discount days. Find out when London Fashion Week is on - it's usually every February and September - and note the date of the closing weekend as a good opportunity to snap up some really great gear at bargain prices.

* Be a seller not a buyer: People who are addicted to online auction sites. Often make the best sellers when they put their minds to it. Get a friend to help you to photograph, price and upload all of your items onto the site and then monitor your sales. If you really can't cope with setting it up, then get out a local yellow pages and take your unwanted stuff down to one of the many high street internet shops who will do it all for you. They do take a fee however, so it pays to give up a Saturday when you would have been out shopping to work it out for yourself.
