Post Re: What To Look For In Baby Shoes
Since the happiest moment of your life when your doctor announced you pregnant, you've been planning every single detail of your baby's life. Your baby's room decor, your baby's bedding, your baby's clothes, your baby's toiletries, and of course your baby's shoes- everything have been ruffling in your mind. Thoughts have heaped up and you cant figure out what to do. Every mother goes through a situation like this when having her first child and it is perfectly normal.
It is advisable to not think of shoes for your baby until he or she starts walking. Experts say its because of the balance that the baby needs to develop with the shoe. That is why its good to let your baby walk barefoot for at least a few weeks before you cover the little ones feet with shoes so as to let his/her feet develop.
When choosing the first baby shoes, make sure to find the perfect fit. Baby wont be able to tolerate a pair too tight or too loose. Also, it can cause blisters on the delicate skin of the babys feet. Its best to consult your pediatrician before buying the first pair.
Remember that stiff and/or high-top shoes made from hard materials are a strict no-no for a toddler. Instead, go for soft, flexible shoes that would be friendly with the baby's skin and let his/her feet maintain the body's balance at the time of walking. Canvas is a good material. As for designs, choose flat shoes that have soft soles. Most toddlers like shoes that make sounds or squeaks. Some say the sound encourages babies to walk. These shoes are good for parents as well since the sound gives them an indication about the baby's movements.
As far as fastening is concerned, choose infant shoes with Velcro. Velcro makes the shoes easy to tie and untie as compared to laces. Its common to have two different sizes for the two feet of the baby. Choose shoes that allow some space between the toes to the end of the shoe so that the toe can move inside.
Let your baby walk at the store itself wearing the shoes you've selected before making the purchase. Simply by observing his/her movements, you will get an idea about the babys comfort level with the shoes. Baby's feet keep growing fast so, check for any holes or signs of discomfort inside the shoes. The moment you find any, replace the shoes with a bigger pair.
