Re: Tips for saving money while shopping
Hi
Usually buying bigger or more lowers the price of a product. However, Walmart takes advantage of this fact to trick shoppers, increasing the price of a product as it gets bigger. Check the unit price to see if buying two smaller packages would save you money.
The Walmart brand is not always the cheapest brand, although store brands are usually cheaper than generic brands. Look at the other brands to see if you can find the product at a cheaper price.
Walmart does price matching, meaning that if you find a product they sell being sold cheaper at another store, they will sell it to you at the other store's price. Browse the flyers you get in the mail to check competitor prices. Bring in the ad (some locations don't require it) and show them the product and price you want. This is especially great if Walmart is closer to you than other stores, because you also save on gas!
Thanks

Re: Tips for saving money while shopping
Hello Planning all of your meals ahead of time allows a family to become more organized and develop a set grocery list. Once you planed all of your meals, you will know what ingredients you need to purchase. Once you make your list and take it to the store it is important that you stick to. If you happen to see an item on sale that you know your family will use in the near future, it may be a good idea to sock up on the item; however, try to avoid impulse buying.
Before entering a store check out their weekly sales flyers. In many grocery stores, you can ask the customer service repetitive about having a flyer mailed directly to your home and this will help you prepare a list ahead of time. Many well known grocery stores often have store cards or discount cards. These cards pretty much work like coupons, without all the paper! You can generally obtain a store card by filling out a form at the customer service counter. Each week grocery stores will have special sale prices that you can only obtain by using their card.
Just about every week, coupons booklets are inserted into weekly newspapers. Clipping coupons is a great way to save money if you will use the product. Many shoppers think that because they have the coupon that they should purchase the product. Only purchase products that you will use. Many times a competing brand will have a sale price on the same product that you have a coupon for.
If you have a large family or like to purchase items in bulk, it is recommended that you shop at local wholesale food stores. Sam's Club is a great example of a wholesale food warehouse; however, there are many more stores located around the nation.

Re: Tips for saving money while shopping
In order to get a good idea about your spending habits compared to a society who was bent of frugality (out of necessity) you can go online and find out what saving during the depression and the war was like. Ever wonder why your Grandma saved aluminum foil and wrapped it back around the roll? My Grandmother rinsed out Ziploc baggies and turned them inside out, dried them in the dish drainer and reused them. Now I know why. Do a little research, and if you'd like, do a little research on how all the things we throw away (especially clothing) ends up in landfills and hurts the environment. Thanks

Hi
Buy frozen. Fresh produce is appealing, but items such as broccoli, green peppers and strawberries are considerably cheaper when purchased from the frozen aisle. Most frozen items still carry the same health benefits.
Skip the red meat. Buying ingredients for vegetable and pasta dishes will instantly lower your grocery bill. Meat, especially red meat, is the most expensive item purchased by shoppers. Start preparing meat dishes once a week, and you'll find more money in your pocket.
Give generic a chance. Many generic food brands contain the same ingredients as their brand-name counterparts. Look for items that say, "Compare our ingredients to the brand-name competitor" on the jar or box.
Thanks

Re: Tips for saving money while shopping
Internet shopping has been made easier by the presence of comparison sites. Although many shoppers would associate these sites with insurance products and cars, the same principal can also be applied to retail shopping. Leading comparison sites such as Comparethemarket.com allow users to browse and compare the prices of just about anything that can be bought from various retailers. Various comparison sites exist for the same purpose so competition is rife and, as a result, they do not include every retailer or business. For that reason, it might be worthwhile to browse through a few comparison sites before buying a product in order to find the best deal as sometimes prices vary.

Re: Tips for saving money while shopping
Hello Friends, 1.Shop the store brands. Many stores like Giant Eagle, Wal-Mart even Target have "store brand" products. A lot of times these products are the exact same as the name brand products. For example at you can get store brand sour cream for $1.09 but if you were to buy name brand it would be $2.50 or more! By switching to generic or store brand food products you can save over 10% on your grocery bill! But keep your eyes peeled because sometimes name brands aren't cheaper in the long run. So how do you tell? 2. Check the price per unit tag. When you read the price tag look for the unit price. Just keep in mind that the sale price isn't taken into account on these tags. The lower the price per unit the better the deal. 3. Look at the bottom shelves. Stores place the high ticket items at eye level. Their labels have eye appeal and are easy to reach. Get yourself some exercise by bending down and looking at the products on the lower shelves. That's where you will find the generic, store brand products and other interesting items. Also check the highest shelves for unique or harder to find items. Take time to shop and you will not only save money but will also come home with some interesting edible treasures! 4. Shop the sales ads. Local grocery stores send out weekly circulars listing their sales for the week. A great way to save money is to just purchase the items on sale. The biggest sales are on the front page. Stores place their best sales here to draw you into the store banking that once you get there you will purchase non sale items too. If you don't get your local grocery circulars in the mail you can look for the flyers on the web. It's also a good idea to compare sales and prices at different stores because often times they will be running very similar sales. 5. Avoid the mega-marts. That is unless you have a lot of self control! Mega marts, like Wal-Mart and Super Target, can be very helpful for the time crunched individuals offering one stop shopping and low prices. However once in the store they tantalize the unwary shopper with cute clothes for the kids, fun toys for the pets and just about anything else under the sun. They entice consumers further by offering irresistible deals that end up filling the cart and elongating the receipt. If you have a good deal of will power and can stick to your list you will be rewarded with a lower food bill. You can still save even more money by shopping at several different stores and purchasing their sale items and store brands. Thanks.

Re: Tips for saving money while shopping
Hello ON SALE ITEMS TO AVOID
The grocery store is professionally organized to get you to spend as much money as possible. Often, "on sale" items are displayed at the front of the store or at the end of isles. Don't assume that these items are actually a bargain, since the manufacturers or distributors of those products are actually paying to display their products.
BUY ONLY WHAT YOU NEED AND CAN AFFORD
Before grocery shopping, write a list of the items you need. Then, when shopping, only buy those items. Avoid putting other things in your cart that catch your eye. Supermarkets want to take advantage of people buying things they did not intend to purchase, so be a smart shopper and use a shopping list. Also, don't buy more than what you can afford. You are probably better off using cash than a credit card, if using a credit card puts you into debt. If you only bring the money you intend to spend, then you can't spend any more.
AVOID CONVENIENCE ITEMS
Don't purchase items that are convenience items, such as prepared vegetables or pre-made sandwiches. These items are more costly, and you are better off buying your own ingredients and making them yourself.
BUY ITEMS IN BULK?
Buying items in bulk used to be cheaper. However, these days stores figured out that they could actually charge more, without consumers realizing it. The bigger box of cereal may actually be more expensive than the smaller box. Therefore, the best bet is to comparison shop and see if you are actually getting a better bargain.

Hello
Tips for saving money while shopping
- Check the price per unit tag. When you read the price tag look for the unit price. Just keep in mind that the sale price isn't taken into account on these tags. The lower the price per unit the better the deal.
- Look at the bottom shelves.
- Coupon codes are used to save money when shopping online instead of clip and save coupons. Some stores have a block to enter a coupon code when you check out. By entering different codes you may qualify for discounts, freebies, or free or reduced shipping. You could also just do a Google search for codes too.
- A great price may not be so great after you add in shipping charges. Fortunately many sites offer free or reduced shipping. Some sites will give shipping discounts when you enter a coupon code, others give free or reduced shipping after you buy a certain dollar amount of merchandise. An example of this would be Amazon.com. They offer free shipping on many products if the total is over $25. Many other sites have similar offers if you search for them.
