Post Foam – Protective Applications
The potential for foam is near limitless, and far from just being a stop-gap when a specialist material is needed, foam is able to shine all on its own in a wide variety of applications – for example in protective usage.

“Protective products” is an umbrella term to mean a wide variety of vastly different items – from stab vests to helmet linings, and therefore different kinds of foam will suit different applications. However, broadly speaking foam is now fundamental across the board in the safety sector.

Helmets are still a simple but highly effective safety product. However, their efficiency has been greatly optimised through the simple application of memory foam; and specifically memory foam linings add an all important additional layer of shock absorption to helmets, such as horse riding and cycling helmets where head injuries are still the major hazard.

As well as memory foam, confor foams are also ideal for a range of “protective” applications, offering a high level of impact resistance. It is this impact resistance that makes confor foams great for impact vests for horse riders, for example.

Foam is also now fundamental in the emergency services, for, for example, stab vests due to the inherent durability of high density foams.

One of the most positive ways that foam has begun to transform the modern world is in regards to “protective” applications, where only foam can offer a high level of adaptability alongside an inherent durability – which makes foam the new name in protective clothing.

Post Re: Foam – Protective Applications
The purpose of engineered foams in packaging is to protect a moving packaged object from damage when it meets resistance. The objective of our engineering department is to select the optimum type of foam, and then to configure the foam component so that it will absorb a shock or vibration and effectively isolate those forces from being transmitted to the packaged object.

Whether you need to protect a small electronic component with sensitive optics, a delicate disc drive, a complicated printed circuit board or a large piece of heavy equipment, the physical characteristics of different foams can be fine-tuned to meet your packaging needs.

At Romanow Container we design and manufacture protective packaging solutions...
* using polyethylene foams, polyurethane foams, polyester foams, expanded polystyrene foams, molded polypropylene foams, as well as cross linked and specialty foams
* for customers in New England industries including Hi-Tech, Pharmaceutical, Food Production, Bio-Technology, Military, Medical, Aeronautics, and Automotive ... to name just a few.

Investing to meet our markets’ requirements
Romanow’s protective packaging capability took a major leap forward in 1998 with our acquisition of Perry Packaging of Maynard, MA (now renamed as Romanow Packaging LLC). Perry had specialized in the manufacture of protective foam and wood packaging, as well as domestic and export grade triple wall corrugated products.

Today Romano Packaging’s Maynard facility is equipped to perform all operations necessary for the sawing, skiving, automatic die-cutting, gluing, welding, convoluting, hot knifing, etc., of PE foam planks and PU buns, as well as a wide array of specialty foams.
