Used furniture may look solid and sturdy on first glance, but unless the seller is forthcoming (or even knows all the history themselves), you could be looking at a good looking piece that is not solidly built. Often used furniture has had repairs (sometimes multiple repairs to the same area) and patches to fix architectural design problems, which could become a bigger hassle for you in the long run.
