Bupropion (also known as Wellbutrin, Zyban, Voxra, Budeprion, or Aplenzin; formerly known as amfebutamone[1]) is an atypical antidepressant and smoking cessation aid. It is different than most antidepressants commonly prescribed in that it acts as a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor and nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist.[2][3] Bupropion belongs to the chemical class of aminoketones and is similar in structure to stimulants cathinone and diethylpropion, and to phenethylamines in general.
